Why Nusa Dua is Perfect for Your Surf Journey
Here’s why surfing in Nusa Dua stands out as one of the best experiences for beginners and intermediate surfers in Bali:
Gentle &
Long-Lasting Waves
Nusa Dua surf is known for its soft, rolling waves that break smoothly over a mix of reef and sand. These mellow conditions make surf lessons ideal for beginners and intermediates looking to build confidence.
Less
Crowded Lineups
Compared to Bali’s more intense surf spots, Nusa Dua Bali surf offers peaceful lineups and minimal crowds. This means more waves, less pressure, and a more relaxed learning experience for all levels.
Easy
Paddling Zones
The long, smooth breaks and gentle tides in Nusa Dua mean you won’t be fighting against strong currents. It’s one of the easiest places in Bali to paddle out, making surf lessons great for all ages.
Scenic
Serene Location
Nusa Dua offers a picture-perfect setting with white sand beaches, swaying palm trees, and crystal-clear water. The tranquil vibe complements your surf session, creating a peaceful space to learn and enjoy the ocean.

Geger Left
Geger Left is a lesser-known wave, offering shifty but rewarding left-hand rides. It picks up less swell than its neighboring right-hand brake but delivers long rides on the right tide. Great for intermediate surfers, but care should be taken on high tide as the beach disappears and the waves rebound off the cliffside rocks.
Geger Right
A highlight of Nusa Dua Bali surf, Geger Right pulls in the most swell from the deep Indian Ocean and offers fast, powerful right-handers. It’s best surfed at high tide but demands strong paddling due to constant current. Advanced surfers love it for its speed and challenge, though we recommend taking a boat out due to the offshore position and dynamic conditions.
Chicken Wings
Located at the end of Geger Right, Chicken Wings is a fun, fast right-hander with multiple peaks. Accessible by boat or by paddle for experienced surfers, this spot is known for offering long, connecting rides deep into the channel, perfect for those wanting to glide for hundreds of meters on a clean wave face.

Black Stone
Black Stone is a peaky, wedge-style wave that quickly jacks up from deep water and breaks mostly left. While it’s best suited to advanced surfers due to its steep takeoffs, there are mellow inside sections during smaller swells that are perfect for beginner surf lessons. It breaks best on mid-tide and can provide quick zippy rides and playful turns.

Mushroom Rock
Mushroom Rock is a challenging, fast-breaking right-hander that offers barrel sections for advanced surfers on larger swells. On smaller days, it’s accessible to intermediate surfers at high tide. Due to the offshore location and speed of the wave, it’s not suitable for beginners but offers excitement for seasoned riders exploring surfing in Bali Nusa Dua.
Sri Lanka
Often called the best right-hand wave in Bali, Sri Lanka surf spot is a reef break that barrels beautifully on bigger swells. It breaks near luxury resorts and is ideal for intermediate to advanced surfers looking for speed, technical turns, and occasionally, below-sea-level barrels. Access is easy from the resort beaches, making it a must-try during your Nusa Dua surf adventure.

Benoa
The Benoa area is less exposed than southern breaks but holds a trio of surf spots that light up in the right conditions. Benoa Outside Left delivers punchy sets for advanced surfers, while Benoa Inside Left and Benoa Rights offer softer, more manageable waves. The variety here makes it great for intermediate surfers and a hidden treasure for those seeking less crowded surf in Nusa Dua.

Serangan
Although technically closer to Sanur, Serangan is a rainy-season favorite for those based in Nusa Dua. This reef offers a wide selection of peaks, ideal for all levels depending on the swell. Though access now requires a boat, the upside is reduced crowds and preserved wave quality, a great complement to your surf lessons experience.
